this circular is the last one before the upcoming workshop which will be held in

Burg Liebenzell, Germany, January 18 - 21, 2001.

Any further information will be given on our webpage. Please check the webpage regularly before you leave to Burg Liebenzell.

This workshop is planned to discuss the future perspectives of direct mass measurements and to address the implications of next-generation experiments for particle physics, astrophysics and cosmology.

Scientific Programme:

The neutrino mass workshop at Bad Liebenzell will consist of 10 plenary sessions covering the following topics :

See also the workshop schedule and the preliminary programme.

Organization:

The workshop will consist of two and a half days of invited plenary talks covering all topics mentioned above (Friday, January, 19 to Sunday, January, 21). The regular programme will start on Friday morning, January 19, 2001 at 08:30 and will end on Sunday, January, 21, after lunch.

Therefore, all participants are expected to arrive at Burg Liebenzell on the early afternoon of January 18, and stay until January 21 after lunch.

In addition to the 50+ people lecture hall for the plenary sessions the castle offers smaller rooms for group meetings in the afternoons or evenings.

Before the regular workshop on January 19, 2001, there will be a one day pre-workshop (January 18th) on technical questions of a next-generation direct neutrino mass measurement. Please notify the organizers if you wish to participate in the pre-workshop.

Workshop summary:

The organizers plan to write up a summary report of the results of the workshop which will be distributed to the participants and be made available to the broader community.

The transparencies of all talks will be made available electronically on the web after the workshop together with the e-mail address of the author for further communication. To enable this, please bring high quality paper copies of your transparencies with you. Of course, if your material is available in electronic form, this is naturally prefered.

Technical equipment and contacts:

In the lecture hall, overhead transparencies as well as slides can be used. In addition we will provide a beamer system for presentations and a video system (VHS) for speakers who want to show a movie. If you intend to use a beamer/video please contact the organizers under Liebenzell@bk.fzk.de. For more traditional presenters a blackboard + chalk and also paper flipcharts are available.

Most other technical resources are limited. Copies can be made in small quantities only. Internet and email connections with limited capacities will be provided. Details will be given at the start of the workshop.

Participants can be contacted via the address info@InternationalesForum.de, if necessary.

The postal address is: Burg Liebenzell, Postfach 1228, D-75375 Bad Liebenzell, Germany. The secretary of the castle (not of the workshop) can be reached by phone : +49-7052-9245-0 and by fax : +49-7052-9245-18 from outside Germany (from inside Germany, please replace +49 by 0). A card phone booth is available at the castle - phone cards can be bought there.

Workshop Fee:

The workshop fee will include full board, all refreshments during coffee breaks, the housing on Burg Liebenzell, as well as the Workshop Banquet on Saturday.
Due to financial support from the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe this fee will be 300 DM or 140 US-Dollar per person staying at the castle. It has to be paid cash upon arrival.

Venue and Transport:

"Burg Liebenzell" is a medieval castle situated on a hill (450m above sea level) next to the small town of Bad Liebenzell in the northern part of the Black Forest - about 180 km south of Frankfurt, 50 km south-east of Karlsruhe and 40 km west of Stuttgart.

International flights may best be booked to Frankfurt.

The railway station (Frankfurt(M)Flughafen) at the airport ("Fernbahnhof") has frequent connections to Karlsruhe, from there you can continue to Pforzheim and Bad Liebenzell. Train connections Frankfurt Airport to Bad Liebenzell are served every 60 minutes (9:56, 10:56, ... 17:56, 18:56) and usually arrive after a total travel time of 2:20 at Bad Liebenzell station at (12:16, 13:16, ... 20:16, 21:04). You have to change trains at Karlsruhe Hbf and Pforzheim Hbf. For details see the internet railway information http://bahn.hafas.de/bin/query.exe/en.
Also, the Stuttgart airport offers frequent train connections to Bad Liebenzell via Stuttgart main station and Pforzheim.
Please let us know (until January, 15th) when you will arrive at Bad Liebenzell station. You will be picked up by a free shuttle bus and directly transferred to the castle (transfer time about 15 min).
